Earlier this year, the SFPUC launched Electrify My Ride, a program that offered a $1,000 coupon toward the purchase of a new electric bike (or e-bike) for CleanPowerSF customers with low incomes. In total, all 1,000 coupons were issued to customers and over 360 San Franciscans redeemed their coupon before the program ended on April 20.
Customer feedback on Electrify My Ride was overwhelmingly positive. Through several surveys, customers reported that they would not have been able to afford an e-bike without the support from Electrify My Ride.
Several customers also noted that their new e-bike would be better for the environment and make their daily commutes easier.
The SFPUC used a variety of ways to advertise the program, including collaborating with The Bike Connection on an “E-Bike Test Ride” event on Saturday, April 13. Qualifying customers as well as the general public were invited at attend. Over 25 customers redeemed their Electrify My Ride coupons and received a free SFPUC-branded helmet that day.
Electrify My Ride was ultimately created to support the City’s clean transportation goals by providing more San Franciscans with an accessible and low-cost alternative to a car. The agency is committed to helping the City achieve its climate action goals while addressing transportation needs for underserved communities.
With Electrify My Ride, the future in San Francisco looks bright and green, indeed.
