Cleaner Energy for Your Home

CleanPowerSF provides cleaner electricity for our customers at a lower rate than PG&E.

What are my rates?

Have you noticed CleanPowerSF on your PG&E bill? That’s how you know you are getting cleaner energy at lower rates. It is not an additional charge.

Time-of-Use Rate Transition

Most residential customers were transitioned to a Time-of-Use (TOU) rate on July 1, 2021. A Time of Use rate plan means that when you use electricity is just as important as how much electricity you use. From 4–9 p.m., energy demand is high, and less wind and solar power is available. By using less electricity during these hours, you can lower your bill, and ensure that your energy is coming from cleaner sources.

Rates Designed with You in Mind

CleanPowerSF offers various rate options to meet our customers’ energy use and needs.

  • If you live in San Francisco, your electric service is automatically enrolled in CleanPowerSF’s Green service. This rate provides you with 60% renewable energy from sources like wind and solar.

  • SuperGreen is our 100% renewable service option. SuperGreen costs less than $3 more per month for the average residential customers. Currently our SuperGreen rate is cheaper than PG&E’s default generation service.

  • Our new rate to promote home electrification adjusts the usage tier costs for using more electricity. To be eligible for this rate, a customer must have an Electric Vehicle (EV), battery storage, or an electric heat pump.

  • Do you own an electric vehicle and charge your car at home? You may be interested in our EV rate.

  • Our Net Energy Metering or NEM rate allows customers with solar panels to receive credits on their bill when they generate more energy than they need.

Discount Rates

  • A new CleanPowerSF program, SuperGreen Saver offers qualifying customers a 20% discount on their electricity bill and 100% renewable energy every month. Learn more: https://www.cleanpowersf.org/supergreensaver

  • CARE and FERA are state programs administered by PG&E that provide monthly bill discounts to income-eligible residents. CleanPowerSF customers are able to participate in CARE and FERA. Learn more and see if you qualify: www.cleanpowersf.org/loweryourbill

How We Compare

CleanPowerSF continues to offer cheaper rates than PG&E for your generation service.

This compares electricity costs for an average residential customer in the CleanPowerSF/PG&E service area with an average monthly usage of 271 kWh. This is based on an E-TOUC rate schedule for CleanPowerSF’s published rates as of July 1, 2023 and PG&E’s published rates as of March 2024. Please note that due to rounding, the sum of each individual component may not exactly match the values in the Average Total Cost Per Month rows.

*Additional PG&E Fees refer to the Power Charge Indifference Amount (PCIA) and the Franchise Fee Surcharge (FFS). For more details on your bill, view our Residential Understanding Your Bill or NEM Understanding Your Bill.
